What is a Building Biology Environmental Consultant anyway? Why should I care?

BBECs know more than the competition when it comes to assessing your whole house. A BBEC evaluates the impact of a variety of environmental factors, like air quality, water quality, electromagnetic fields, mold, lighting and sound on human health and wellbeing. A BBEC has:

  • Training in building science and energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge of healthy building materials and sustainable design practices.
  • Understanding of the health effects of common environmental toxins, such as mold, lead, asbestos, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Expertise in ventilation, air filtration, and other methods for improving indoor air quality.
  • Expertise in water quality testing and water filtration systems.
  • Expertise in identifying electromagnetic fields and electrical errors.
  • Expertise in evaluating impacts of lighting and sound.

Building biology is based on the principles of sustainability, ecology, and holistic health. There are 25 building biology principles that we strive to achieve.

State-of-the-art professional equipment and reporting procedures.

We use the most specialized equipment and laboratory analysis tools to identify harmful toxins in your home or building. Our competitors often don’t have the same caliber of equipment that we consider essential to conduct a complete home evaluation. As a result, we can perform comprehensive assessments and give you the most in-depth and accurate reports.

We are proud to be among the few industry professionals who include detailed written recommendations for remediation, preventative actions, and follow-up testing.

Experts in Prevention.

If you are remodeling or building a home, then being proactive is the best strategy for preventing future problems. We can help you select healthy and affordable building materials for your home.

There are natural alternatives for almost every type of building material. Many people think healthier alternatives are more expensive, but that’s simply not the case. Low-VOC paint, natural insulation, formaldehyde-free drywall, and many recycled products can be easy on the wallet.

Natural materials that are renewable and non-toxic are healthier for you and for the environment. We can help you find them.
